Naltrexone now offers hope to people suffering from kleptomania. Naltrexone was formerly discovered to be effective in treating drug addiction and alcoholism. According a Reuters news report, the Biological Psychiatry journal released the efficacy of Nalrexone. Dr. Jon E. Grant of the University of Minnesota Medical School explained that "kleptomania appears to share many...similarities to substance use disorders: urges or cravings, tolerances, withdrawal, repeated unsuccessful attempts to cut back or stop, and impairment in areas of life functioning". This is why with naltrexone, several psychiatric disorders can now be alleviated witha level of ease.
This is a great news for the medical field of psychiatry because in a conclusive study that was undergone using naltrexone, the experts found that patients taking these showed more positive response with greater reduction in anxiety and depression. However, the experts reminded that the average effective dose of naltrexone is 116.7 milligrams per day.
